Camp sites (all sites are shown on our guide’s map)
Camping in the Forest The Forestry Commission own ten campsites throughout the Forest, some of which require your own sanitation (there are no toilets or showers). Eight of these are shown on our guide’s map:
Hollands Wood Large site just north of Brockenhurst. Access into Brockenhurst is along the busy A337 - it’s about 0.3 miles before you can turn off and follow quiet routes into the village centre, but there are narrow pavements you can walk. From the back of the site there is a forest cycle track to the Frohawk Ride but it’s a bit of a climb. The New Forest Tour stops here.
Holmsley Large well-equipped site 3 miles south of Burley, with a shop and takeaway. Forest cycle tracks lead straight to the Witch’s ride to Burley ride.
Setthorns (own sanitation) A very wooded site, beside the railway path section of the Witch’s ride to Burley ride, and an easy quiet route into Sway.
Aldridge Hill (own sanitation) Ideally located next to the Queens Meadow and Arboretum ride with quiet routes into both Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst. If you’ve got your own sanitation perhaps the best camping base for all the rides in this guide!
Roundhill A big open site with lots of space. The site is on the Frowhawk Ride and it connects nicely to the network as a whole.
Matley Wood (own sanitation) One of the smaller Forestry Commission sites, but you’ll need to use the B3056 for 0.5 miles to access the forest cycle tracks (via Denny Wood).
Denny Wood (own sanitation) Great location to join the local network of forest cycle tracks. The New Forest Tour also stops here.
Ashurst Close to the village of Ashurst and at the start of the short Ashurst ride. To join the rest of our routes will mean a 3 mile ride alongside the busy A35 (cycle path segregated by grass strip) to and through Lyndhurst (or nip down on the train from Ashurst to Brockenhurst or Sway).

Acres Downs Farm Small basic campsite (and farm shop) near Minstead and our Ornamental Woods and Fallen Giants ride.
Minstead Manor Farm Small basic site with good facilities. For caravans and motorhomes you must be a member of The Camping & Caravanning Club. Off a reasonably quiet road near Minstead.
Pondhead Farm Basic site 1.5 miles south east of Lyndhurst on B3056.
Avon Tyrrell Outdoor activities centre, with timber lodges and campsite. The large site has its own mountain biking trail and cycle hire. Three miles south of Burley on the edge of our guide. The annual family orientated New Forest Cycling Week is held here.
New Forest Youth Hostel (Burley) Dormitories, private rooms, and camping. On the edge of Burley, with quiet lanes connecting to the off-road cycle network.
